Let's discuss something adout Question 1:In what ways did the beginnings of the Web at CERN (as a way of scientists sharing information) impact its design ?
As we all know ,Tim Berners-Lee, a British scientist, invented the World Wide Web (WWW) in 1989, while working at CERN. The Web was originally conceived and developed to meet the demand for automated information-sharing between scientists in universities and institutes around the world.
As a result, users can access resources from different computers through Web.
You are right .But at the same time ,we should know that CERN is not an isolated laboratory, but rather the focal point for an extensive community that includes more than 17 000 scientists from over 100 countries. Although they typically spend some time on the CERN site, the scientists usually work at universities and national laboratories in their home countries. Reliable communication tools are therefore essential ,so in my opinion ,which is the reason why the World Wide Web (WWW) would be invented.
Well,as the course says,CERN connected all the knowledge,all the books,all the magazines and all of the informination we want to know with their specific address,names or something like these.What they do is to design a system that can easily build the connections between the information and their addresses or names.
Good job! After the short discussion ,I think all of us must have great answers to Question 1.Now,let's move on to Question 2: What are the weaknesses and strengths of the Web as a technology?
The invention has the advantages that the mutual communication and the data exchange among the heterogeneous systems are realized in the simplest way, and the cross-platform is realized. Weakness: The HTML format really waste a lot. To write a HTML page, one need to write codes to keep the right format, usually more than the real content. Also this would wast lots of net-flow on formatting. Maybe some lighter format like Markdown should be a better way.
Advantages: Though HTML waste lots of codes for formatting, it provides a perfect way to display information properly with different devices. It can be generally used by world wide.
Advantages：It offers convenience and a high speed of communication in the computer world.
I would summarize the most important advance of web design in one word and it is “linked”.Tim had the idea of enabling researchers from remote sites in the world to organize and pool together information. But far from simply making available a large number of research documents as files that could be downloaded to individual computers,he suggested that you could actually link the text in the files themselves.
Today we click a link on a website and jump to another web. This is a brilliant idea from Tim Berners-Lee.
As for me,I don't think it could be alternative by any way,beacause its contribution to humanbeings is Irreplaceable.What we can do is do something to make it better.
The Internet of things will replace the Internet. The Internet of things refers to a new type of information technology, which, as the name implies, is a network that connects objects with each other. Some people say that the Internet of things is likely to lead to the third major innovation in the information industry. With the rapid improvement of network transmission speed, cloud computing, big data and other technologies have become more and more popular. More and more common items in life will be connected to the network, such as wearable devices, sensors, household appliances and so on.
However the Internet of Things (IOT) has not been developed so well yet. The limited ipv4 resources restricted its development a lot. Most of the ipv4 resources were given to western countries, while we Chinese only have few. To solve this problem, it's important and necessary to develop the ipv6 technology to create more ip resources to use. However, ipv6 is still not be common used. IOT still have a long way to go.
More data types are available to web. Not only text, videos, flashes , pictures and so on all are showed on the websites. And the linked idea have influenced the way engineers thinks. For example, ITO, internet to object , links internet and objects.
Now the question 4. What is the direction of Web evolution? What might the Web look like in ten years time?
As many trends of Web evolution,this trend intrests me most.That is Progressive Web application.
A recent study of mobile phone use found that mobile phone app time accounted for 89% of the total mobile media time. This makes sense, using similar formats to mobile applications will be loved by the target audience.
A progressive Web application is a Web application similar to a mobile application, but it is actually a Web page or Web site. It takes advantage of a large number of features on the web browser to provide an application-like user experience. This technology has many advantages, such as the ability to work offline, the ability to load almost instantly (as much information as possible is stored in the cache), reliability, and the ability to receive push notifications. It can be made up in a shorter period of time, can be used by any user and is usually easier to deploy and maintain, all of which are good for developers and consumers.
Six possibilities:1.Evolution of New Standards and stable ,2.Application Development Technology tends to stabilize, 3.Technology tools, 4.New characteristics of browser diversified, 5.front-end technology development 6.ecological front-end new field.
Trend 1: more mobile priority trend 2: more use of rapid prototype development tools trend 3: pay more attention to artificial intelligence
Trend 4: more single-page site trend 5: virtual reality
Nowadays, the moblie Web have matured, which is the most important development direction in the foreseeable future. The mobile Web still has potential. The second thing is cloud computing. Picture this: whatever it's a company or an individual, only need a simple PDA, all complex compluting can be done online.
In my opinion, the Web would be more hommization. From programmer aspect, writing a web page will be more easier, whether by tool kits or by evolution of formatting language. From user aspect, viewing a page or searching for resources will be a better experience , like voice control (now applying) or the use of visual realization. Also, it will be nicer to those disable or elderly.
